There are some things people need to know during an election in order to fairly decide who to vote for.

Firstly people need to know how much a candidate has at their disposal and intend spending for their election campaign, this information should be in the public domain, that is their estimated spend before hand and their actual spend afterwards.

I will publish my expenditure account at a later date on this blog, but I can tell you it was in total under £1000.00 and I will also tell you exactly how my funds were raised.

I spoke to a number of other candidates on this matter and you would be surprised at how many used the total amount allowed.

A quarter page add in the JEP costs around $500.00, one big banner costs £99.00, of course some candidates have banners and posters they can also reuse from previous elections, such as the banners etc that I will hopefully health permitting reuse in the 2014 elections.

I am not in the least surprised by the 2011 election results in fact any other result would have surprised me.

I say this because the media reporting across the board and not just the accredited media actually played right into the hands of those who were elected. They picked their sides and reported accordingly, in doing so they actually managed to do the voting public a miss-service between them in my opinion.

I will explain this to you from a personal perspective of some of my observations and experiences during the election in a later post as I am still analysing the factual factors involved.

Here is a taste for you.

What I will say is that in the main what the general public got to see hear and read about the Senatorial candidates was cherry picked, for example all the questions and all the answers, plus the full speeches given by candidates at the hustings should have been reported on fully without editing by the JEP as it is the only newspaper in the island, they were not, in consequence not only were a number of questions repeated at hustings, but the majority of people had no idea what had actually been said at any of the husting apart from the very first one, before the JEP changed their format for reporting on the hustings,

As for the media blogers, well some did a reasonable job, but one to my amazement got hoodwinked and even showed a bias for one particular establishment candidate plant, and in doing so showed an obvious bias against myself and another genuine candidate whose heart was in the right place, and others. I will leave you to work out who this one was?

I believe that we need new blood in the States of jersey, people who are going to keep their word and work hard for the people of the island. For this and many other reasons I will be standing for Senator in the upcoming Jersey 2011 elections on the 19th of October

polls open 8.00 a.m; close at 8.00 p.m.

We are facing the final hurdle, voting day, and I for one have enjoyed each and every hurdle along the way.

I feel that we could be facing a long wait for the votes to be counted, I have heard that the Senator ballots will be counted last and all the candidates and voters I have spoken to are of the opinion that the Senatorial votes should be counted first because of the importance of their being an island-wide vote.

Also I have heard that that counting might be stopped on Wednesday night, and only resumed the next day. All the candidates and voters I have spoken to do not like this idea and find it totally wrong and objectionable.

It does not matter how long it takes to announce all results, the count and results should be done on the same night even if it goes on into the following morning.

I am personally horrified by the manner in which unchecked immigration has been having a significant impact on the Island’s environment, infrastructure and quality of life. I believe that an ageing population or any other sector needing support cannot be supported by a growing immigrant workforce whose members (and whatever family members they bring with them) will obviously themselves grow old in due course and need support.

I would support something akin to the Australian points system if proposed, and if nothing was proposed I would do further research properly and do a proposal along those lines myself.  I would give serious consideration to any proposals put forward to cut down the present unchecked immigration that is being allowed to continue, and back those that where viable, realistic and sustainable.

The advantage of the Australian points system is that amongst many other desirable aspects the Health checks would help stop further strain on our health service and Police checks would stop those with a criminal record from coming here.

The Australian work visas/permits or point system would ensure that future jobs would go to those already resident in the island first.

I have actually started looking into this, my oldest daughter lives in Australia  with my two grandsons and her husband, both my daughter and her husband are Jersey Born, so I do know what paperwork they had to do in order for them to immigrate there, and I have also visited there twice on a holiday visa.

What do you see as the key issue facing Jersey?

Economy; We need to generate more income from all sectors and help small businesses. Lower travel expenses this would bring down prices across the board, for finance, tourism, agriculture, sports and leisure etc.

We need to bring down the cost of living in the island, not just for the benefit of the residences but also to help tourism, this used to be a cheap holiday destination but now everything is fare more expensive than many other destinations.

Remove GST off food and other essential items. Too many people’s incomes are not even keeping up with the cost of living index.

We need a fairer tax system. It is unacceptable that lower earning and middle earning people of Jersey should be paying the same level of taxation as those earning vast amounts of money.

I would seriously research and consider anything that could boost our economy even in this global recession.

Will you be seeking promotion to the Council of Ministers – if so, which position would you like and why? 

No because I believe a first term to be a learning cycle.  Having said that I would consider anything asked of me and work hard in any position or job that came my way. I am not someone who is afraid of being upfront outspoken, straight talking and transparent.

I enjoy a challenge and there are many challenges ahead of anyone elected to the States in these worrying times. I feel we need people who are willing to tackle whatever is thrown at them to the best of their ability, willing to listen, research and debate any problems that arise in any area that effects the islands people, in a manner that reflects the actual wishes of the people and what is right for the island as a whole, to protect the quality of all our lives.

Why should islanders vote for you?

I know what it is like to live in all walks of life and we already have enough politicians who do not know what it is like to live on a low or middle earning income, who in reality do not appear going by their collective decisions in the States understand how much the cost of living for low or middle earners needs looking into and needs sorting out, along with the need for small businesses to be on a level playing field with those from outside of the island. The pensioners and low earners desperately need their pensions or earnings to be raised to a realistic level with their pensions, earnings linked to the cost of living annually.

I hear, understands the need of the islands people as a whole and if honoured enough to be elected I promise I will stick to my manifesto, I will be accountable.
